One summer long ago—more than 20 years ago now—I looked out from the second floor of our home and saw a group of sunburnt elementary school kids on their bikes, their hair glistening with sweat.
One of them stopped at our front gate, gulped down the cold shikomi-mizu(the pristine brewing water we use at Hideyoshi), and shouted with a big grin,
“Let’s drink some Hideyoshi!”
Of course, he didn’t mean the sake—at least not yet. Just that cool, clear water.
But oh, how delicious it looked the way they drank it.
Those cute little boys must be all grown up now—maybe working or studying hard, raising kids, caring for loved ones, and giving life their all.
This summer, too, the water is still flowing—clear and cold from the earth, just like always.
Come take a sip again sometime—of the water, and the sake too.
We’ll be here, waiting for you.
Have a wonderful summer!
